During Season 5 of RuPaul’s Drag Race fans of the show and Jinkx Monsoon fell in love with the webseries Drag Becomes Him. The series, featuring footage of the drag superstar and ultimate winner of Season 5, Jinkx Monsoon (as well as the guy under the wig and mastermind behind the drag character, Jerick Hoffer), showed an up close and personal glimpse into the life of a drag star rising rapidly to fame. It was announced nearly a year ago at the finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 6 that the series was being made into a full length film to be released in theaters. The announcement was met with much delight from fans who had fallen in love with not only the subject and key focus of the film herself, but also the artistic and stylistic videography of the short films, Alex Berry.
Well, kids, the wait is over! It looks like Monsoon Season is coming back at the end of April – April 29th to be specific – as the feature length film makes its world debut at the glamorous theater Cinerama in Seattle, Washington. This location seems only appropriate given that Seattle is Jinkx’s home. While no further release locations or dates have been announced yet, we can only hope that the feature length film will be distributed to theaters across the country.
